The number of people in need of relief food in the county has risen by 1,800 to 3,300, according to the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS).

The society's regional manager, Anwar Said, who spoke during distribution of food at Moinonin in Baringo North sub-county, attributed the increase to insecurity that has made many people flee their homes.

"The number of people in dire need of assistance has more than doubled but we are determined to help them," Said said.

He added: "Insecurity in the county has affected many people. It has also done a lot of damage. The situation has been compounded further by the effects of the devastating drought."

Last month, KRCS withdrew its services after bandits attacked its officers but resumed after the government assured it of enhanced security.
