Students from universities across the world took time to share in the pain of victims of the Garissa University College terrorist attack. Here is how comrades from around the world reacted.

University of Cape Town, South Africa

Comrades here attended a vigil and lit 147 candles for each of the students killed.


University of Manchester, England

Hundreds of students gathered roses, each with the name of the students killed in the attack.


University of Zagreb, Croatia

147 comrades in Croatia lay on the ground for 147 seconds with the word ‘Kenya’ written at the Centre.

Central University of Venezuela

They re-enacted a scene in one of the rooms where several bodies of the Garissa university students were found.

New York University, USA

Students led by the African Students Association held a vigil where they held placards that read #African lives matter, and counted to 147 in memory of each of the slain at Garissa University College students.


Lund University, Sweden

Students withstood low temperatures to hold a minute of silence for the victims of the Al-Shabaab terror attack.

Makerere University, Uganda

Comrades marched through the streets of Kampala to condemn the gruesome terrorist attack. They carried placards that read, An attack on students in Kenya is a direct attack on all students on the continent.

University of Trinidad and Tobago

The university created a memorial for the fallen Garissa students. Each student was asked to show solidarity by leaving a pen at the memorial because “pens are symbolic of learning that crosses religious, racial and national boundaries.”

The university’s flags on campus flew at half-mast in honour of the Kenyan students.
