Microsoft has introduced its new device known as the HoloLens headset.
The stand-alone augmented-reality headset was introduced just after the long awaited Windows 10 was unveiled.
HoloLens is equipped with multiple motion sensors and a camera, all of which work together to recognise where the wearer is in the room and the objects that surround him.
And once this is done, the headset projects computer generated objects, that appear much like holographic projections, into one’s real world environment.
For example, depending on the data fed into the headset, a wearer may see a dinosaur (the computer generated object) walking around his home.
This is unlike Virtual Reality (VR) headsets such as the Oculus Rift where the wearer’s view is limited to the virtual objects and environment generated, precluding the wearer from seeing the actual physical environment.
The HoloLens also provides surround sound. It will be released later this year.
