KAKAMEGA COUNTY: UDF Party leader Musalia Mudavadi has called for Western leaders to unite in order to galvanize the votes of the region and achieve presidency.
Speaking Sunday in Malava, Kakamega County during the burial of Robert Tatuli brother to area MP Malulu Injendi, Mudavadi said he was still in the presidential race come 2017 and that he believes that voter registration will be the key to clinch the seat.
"I am still in the race in 2017 which will be my second attempt in Presidency. Cord leader Raila Odinga has also vied three times and he has not given up. I want to tell you it is not once, as a leader you must keep on going and going until you achieve what you are targeting,'' Mudavadi explained.
Mudavadi observed that in 2013 elections, poor voter registration and low turnout on voting day are the reasons why he finished third in the presidential race.
He stated that he is ready to dialogue and work with other political leaders from Western and other parts of the country.
"As leaders let us work together and open room for dialogue for the sake of unity, development and prosperity of the nation. Politics is a competition that should not be translated to enmity,'' noted Mudavadi.
Lugari MP Ayub Savula said that by formation of Luhya, Teso and Sabaot Association (Lutesa) last month will be able to make their numbers count in the coming general elections. They aim to register six million voters in Western.
Savula reiterated that Lutesa will ensure that all residents of Kakamega, Busia, Bungoma and Vihiga counties are ready to come together in order to fulfil the political agenda of the region of producing one of their son's as a president.
"The solution here is for the locals to have identification and voters cards and come out in large numbers to exercise their democratic rights. In 2017, let us start by the numbers we have as our strongest weapon. I ask Mudavadi to come out very strong on this issue,'' stated Savula.
Savula sentiments were echoed by MPs Benjamin Washiali and Alfred Agoi stressed that the community must find solution to problems affecting the residents in the economic and political sectors.
