Nairobi, Kenya: Lobbying is in top gear as MPs hold elections to pick chairpersons of parliamentary departmental and select committees on Monday.
The polls will take place this morning at Parliament Buildings as Jubilee Coalition once more seeks to unleash its numerical strength to clinch leadership the committees.
Sunday, Maara MP Kareke Mbiuki said Jubilee main parties, TNA and URP, had resolved to field one candidate each per committee. They also agreed to alternate between chair and vice in all the committees.
“If TNA fields a chair, URP provides a deputy and vice versa,” Kareke said, adding that the ruling coalition is determined to control all committee except PIC and PAC.
Leader of Majority Aden Duale has also convened a meeting earlier this morning to negotiate on how to share the committees, especially in a situation where one or more Jubilee MPs are eying the same seat.
The meeting is meant to ensure, that there is no fallout among the majority party, which may end up aiding CORD to capture key committees.
