Nyeri, Kenya: Nyeri residents are gearing up for this year’s Rhino Charge set to take place later this month.

Nyeri based Mr Jaswarn Singh, who will participate in the event, got a sponsorship from APA insurance company.

Singh was given Sh40, 000, which will be used to support the conservation activities of the Rhino Ark Trust, an initiative he supports.

The 25th edition of the Rhino Charge takes place between May 31 and June

Initially set up to conserve and fence the Aberdare Water catchment area, the Rhino Trust has been now tasked with the duty of fencing two other key water towers; Mt Kenya and Mt Eburu.

These are part of the five main water towers in Kenya which include; Aberdare’s, Mau, Cherangany and Mt Elgon. These areas boast of some of the country’s richest flora and fauna.

APA Nyeri Branch Manager Mr Nelson Bachia presented the cheque to Singh.

Bachia said that the sponsorship was in line with their corporate social responsibility, to protect the forest.

This is the first time that APA Insurance is sponsoring the event and supporting the conservation effort of the Rhino Charge.  Mr Bachia added that, the sponsorship underlines the insurance provider’s environmentally sound business operations.

In its 22 years of existence the Rhino Charge has slowly but steadily attained their goals as well as support from different corporate entities as well as individuals sponsors. Last year’s event raised a total of Sh77, 311,364.
