Naivasha, Kenya: Two men have been arrested with cocaine valued at Sh40 million along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.
The men, a Kenyan and Rwandese were on their way to Nairobi from Kampala in Uganda on Thursday when they were stopped at a roadblock.
Police said they found a package containing white powder weighing eight kilogrammes hidden under one of the rear car seats when they conducted a search.
A team of police officer from Naivasha and Nairobi had been tipped off of the cargo before they laid the roadblock and seized the men near Naivasha town.
The officers later moved to a house in South C in Nairobi for another search following reports there were more of the narcotics.
Officials suspect the drugs that were in the house were moved before the arrival of the officers. Their SUV car has been detained by police.
Head of anti-narcotics unit Hamis Masa said on Thursday they are still investigating the intended destination of the drugs.
He said traffickers seem to have avoided airports in moving the narcotics and now are trying to use roads.
The suspects will be charged in court on Friday.
Police said they are tracking their accomplices who have taken off after realising the two had been arrested.
