Industrialisation minister Henry Kosgey has said he is still seeking to be Prime Minister’s Raila Odinga’s running mate.
The minister said his quest to be a running mate was still his first priority but said he was ready to go for Nandi County Senate seat if not successful.
Kosgey termed his anticipated endorsement as a running mate a “game changer” that would overhaul politics in Rift Valley, saying he was hopeful the Prime Minister would consider him.
He said: “I am confident once I am appointed as the running mate Rift Valley will change its political direction and support ODM and PM’s bid for presidency.”
Big risk
The minister was speaking in Kapsabet when he met local leaders to strategise for Prime Minister’s visit to the area next Saturday.
Kosgey, who is also Tinderet MP, said he was taking a risk in going for running mate’s post since there were several other leaders seeking the same position.
He said: “One does not go to war with a feeble heart. I am taking the risk but I am very optimistic that I will be considered.”
Kosgey met civic leaders, party officials, Nandi Council of elders (Kaburwo), officials of Maendeleo ya Wanawake, youth leaders and members of the public ahead of PM’s expected tour of the region.
The six-hour meeting held at Nandi County Council hall led to the formation of a committee to oversee the preparations for the PM’s rally.
Warm reception
Among those who welcomed the minister were ODM Nandi County Chairman, Jacob Keino, Deputy Council chairman, Philip Rotich and Kapsabet Deputy mayor Ms Rose Ngeny. Speaking to the leaders, Kosgey said a warm reception for the PM in the region would increase his chances of being appointed running mate.
