After two straight losses, Kenyan Premier League (KPL) new-comers Muhoroni Youth bounced back to winning ways after stopping Oserian 1-0 at home on Sunday afternoon.
It is a result that Muhoroni Youth coach Alfred Imonje will welcome after two straight losses against KCB and Thika United.
Harry Gentle scored the only goal which separated the two sides in the 73rd minute to award his side all three points.
For Oserian, the result is worrying and keeps them stuck in the relegation zone.
Determined to end their poor result at home, Muhoroni started strongly and Abbey Kunrunmi should have claimed the match’s first goal early on in the sixth minute but missed from close range.
Oserian, too had a couple of chances in the first half but poor finishing, which has been their main problem in the first leg of the KPL, cost them again in this fixture.
Great confidence
The home side grew greatly in confidence after scoring the goal and the Nigerian, who scored the only goal, could easily have claimed a second one in the 81st minute but his effort hit the bar.
The win enabled Muhoroni to go three points clear from the relegation zone but Oserian went down to the basement, exchanging places with Rangers who beat Sony Sugar 1-0 on Friday at the City Stadium.
Muhoroni Youth captain Harry Gentle thanked the club chairman Moses Adagala for his continued support. “After donating foodstuffs that included three bags of maize, cooking fat and sugar to widows in Muhoroni, we knew we would win today,” Gentle told FeverPitch.
In Naivasha, Karuturi Sports failed to win yet again after being held to a 1-1 tie KCB at the Oserian Stadium.
A lot of determination
Coming from last weekend’s loss to AFC Leopards, Karuturi showed plenty of determination and created early chances with Jacob Omondi their top scorer missing the first chance which came their way.
Omondi made up for the loss with a goal in the 23rd minute after pouncing on a loose ball at their opponents box.
The bankers got a point at the same venue last weekend and they were determined to come out with something forcing them to fight hard after conceding the goal.
Former Gor Mahia striker Ezekiel Odera, who had come in as a second half substitute in the place of Milton Milimo scored the equaliser for KCB in the 83rd minute after completing a superb Clifford Alwanga effort.
Elsewhere, neighbouring Chemelil Sugar were held to a barren draw by City Stars during a Kenyan Premier League encounter at Chemelil Sports Complex to leave fans crestfallen.
