The curtains rolled down on this year’s schools rugby calendar at the Rugby Football Union of East Africa ground in Nairobi with a total of seven finals on the card.

Mang’u defeated Upper Hill 24-3 to win the ultimate prize, the Prescott Cup.

Upper Hill were out to claim their maiden Prescott title with Mang’u gunning for a third title in a row.

Mang’u wasted no time in making their intentions known, pinning Upper Hill inside their 22 for a good part of the first ten minutes, Upper Hill doing great to hold on.

Mang’u’s pressure paid off with a try to make it 5-0. Upper Hill tried to get back in it but could not break the Mang’u defence, the boys in green found themselves further behind after the second Mang’u try at the centre to bring the score to 12-0 at the half time.

Mang’u were rampant in that half, allowing their opponents very little of the ball during the contest last Saturday.

They continued with this early on in the second half, further stretching their lead to 17-0.

decent phases

Upper Hill then finally put together a decent number of phases, camping inside the Mang’u but failing to score.

They eventually altered the scoreboard from a penalty to make it 17-3.

It was Upper Hill who had the upper hand in the latter stages of the game as they looked to catch up but it was the Wazimba who were to have the last laugh  — they scored a converted try, giving them a 24-3 lead that they held to full time.

lenana locked out

Alliance claimed Prescott Cup bronze on silver platter after their would-be opponents Lenana were locked out of the competition for failure to provide the age verification documents for their players as required.

Mangu Two beat bitter rivals Alliance Two 15-0 to claim the Damu Changa overall title.

Rift Valley Academy Two (RVA) beat Strathmore Two 15-13 to lift the Damu Changa Bronze Final.

The other game saw RVA play St Mary’s School for the Prescott Cup Bowl title in a tightly contested match.

RVA, however, ensured that both of their teams went home with silverware, winning this one 19-11 despite comeback from Saints in the second half.

In Prescott Cup plate final, Nairobi School beat Strathmore 12-7 to be crowned the 2012 Prescott Cup Plate winners.

Ofafa Jericho upset the much-fancied Laiser Hill 15-13 to claim the Damu Pevu Shield.

Meanwhile, Ngiito caused a major upset when they defeated Kapweria 4-1 in post- match penalties during Narok County Secondary Schools Games at Maasai Girls High.

The two teams drew 1-1 in the normal and extra time forcing the match referee Leonard Onyiego to apply the penalty rule to break the stalemate during the football match.
