Implementation of the Alcoholic Drinks Control Act has saved Murang’a region after years of the area being perceived to be a testing ground for illicit brews.
This was said by women leaders who noted that Murang’a has resumed its old glory after the area DC George Natembeya ensured eradication of illicit brews.
During a workshop organised by African Woman Child Features Service (AWCFS) at a Murang’a hotel, the women leaders observed that the situation could have been worse if implementation of the liquor Act had failed.
Stern action
The session chaired by veteran journalist Ms Jane Godia lauded Mr Natembeya for stern action against those flouting the liquor Act.
Maendeleo ya Wanawake Kiharu branch Chair Jacinta Ng’ang’a said women in the region supported the Provincial Administration’s efforts.
“The situation in Murang’a is under control but our concern is when we visit other places and see liquor outlets open as early as 9am with drunkards staggering home,” said Ng’ang’a.
On elections, the leaders committed themselves to ensure the coming General Election will be held in a peaceful atmosphere.
They called on politicians to ensure peaceful meetings and to stop inciting the youth to violence.
