Toyota East Africa has recalled 570 new generation Corolla models manufactured between November 2007 and January this year over possible technical hitches with the accelerator pedal system.
This is part of a global recall programme undertaken by the vehicle maker.
With the announcement, Toyota EA joins South Africa, Japan USA, and Europe that have recalled various vehicle models due to the technical hitch that has slowly eating into the brand of one of the largest vehicle manufacturer in the world.
"We have been asked by Toyota Motor Corporation Japan to carry out special service campaign on the new generation Corolla to inspect the accelerator pedal mechanism," said Hylton Bannon, the Managing Director of Toyota EA.
"We are in the process of getting into contact with those who purchased the vehicles from us with a view of carrying out the inspections."
On Wednesday, Toyota South Africa Motors announced it was recalling the Corolla, Auris, and Verso models as part of a global recall programme to repair possible faulty acceleration mechanisms on these vehicles.
The process would affect 45,000 Corollas dated February 2007 to January 2010, 6,665 Auris models dated June 2006 to January 2010, and 841 Verso models dated October 2008 to January this year.
Seven models being recalled in Europe are the Aygo, iQ, Yaris, Auris, Corolla, Verso, and Avensis, and cover manufacturing dates going back to February 2005. In the US, the models include RAV4, Corollas, Matrix, Avalons, Camrys, Highlander, Tundra, and Sequoia, and cover dates going back to October 2005.
