The world's fourth-richest woman MacKenzie Scott has filed for divorce from her second husband of less than two years, the New York Times reports.

Scott, who as of June 2022 had a net worth of $43.6 billion (Sh5.3 trillion), married Seattle-based Science teacher Dan Jewett in March 2021, two years after divorcing her billionaire husband Jeff Bezos.

The New York Times reports that Scott filed for divorce from Jewett at the King County Superior Court in Washington DC on Monday, September 27.

The couple announced their marriage in March 2021 through a message on the Giving Pledge webpage.

The Giving Pledge is a philanthropic organisation that encourages the world's richest people to donate a majority of their wealth to charitable causes.

Scott and Jewett struck a rapport following their mutual interest and commitment to philanthropy.

Scott described her husband, Jewett, as "one of the most generous and kind people I know".

Jewett's message on the Giving Pledge site about his marriage to Scott, 52, seems to have disappeared from the platform.

His name has also been edited out of a post that Scott had written in 2021 about their gifts.

Scott, a novelist, also deleted Jewett from her author bio on Amazon, the online retailer which is the source of her enormous wealth.

Scott formally divorced Amazon founder Jeff Bezos in April 2019, three months after filing for separation.

She met Jeff while working as an administrator at the New York hedge fund D. E. Shaw in the early 1990s, marrying shortly afterward.

She has been credited as Amazon's first accountant who was involved in growing Amazon from its humble beginnings as an online bookseller to the e-commerce giant that became the second American company to be valued at more than $1 trillion.

She has written two novels that the New York Times said enjoyed "modest" sales of a few thousand copies.

In January 2019 Bezos and Scott announced their divorce in a statement: "After a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends."

Scott Mackenzie is the world's fourth-richest woman behind Francoise Bettencourt Meyers ($74.8b; Sh9t), Julia Koch ($63.4b; Sh7.7t) and Alice Walton ($59.2b; Sh7.1t).

Jacqueline Mars, who has a net worth of $32.6 billion (Sh3.9 trillion), rounds out the list of five wealthiest women in the world.
