President William Ruto has sent wishes to Senegal’s new president Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Egypt’s Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi on his re-election.

Tacking to X (formerly Twitter) Ruto said that Kenya is committed to working with the two countries to strengthen its ties.

“Congratulations Bassirou Diomaye Faye on your decisive election victory. Your visionary leadership is inspiring and sets an unmatched example for emerging leaders. As you assume office today, we undertake to working with you to escalate Kenya-Senegal ties for our shared prosperity,” he said.

Faye became the youngest African president aged 44, after he beat the ruling party’s candidate Amadou Ba aged 62.

He was declared President-elect on March 29 after official results showed he garnered 54.28 per cent of the votes giving him a first-round victory.

Faye had only 10 days to campaign following his release from prison, where he was incarcerated together with opposition leader Ousmane Sonko.

Sonko threw his weight behind Faye after he was barred from running for presidency following conviction in a defamation case.

Egypt’s Sisi was sworn in on Monday, April 1, for his third term after he won the country’s December elections.

He had 89.6 per cent of the votes cast in an election that he did not have serious challengers.

“Best wishes to President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi of Egypt as you begin your new term in office. Kenya looks forward to working with you for a more united and progressive Africa,” said Ruto in his X message to Sisi.
