Gunman shoots man dead, injures woman and kills himself after missing out on planned threesome session

Australia:  A gunman shot dead another man, injured a woman and then killed himself after flying into a rage when he could not have a threesome, an inquest has heard.

John William Clements carried out his murderous rampage after discovering that a three-way sexual encounter he had lined up with his former partner and another woman was not going ahead - as another man had got there before him.

At a hearing, coroner Michael Brett said that Clements had gone to his ex-girlfriend Kylie Hales' home in Devonport, Tasmania, Australia, on the morning of October 8 2011.

He had previously lined up a threesome with his ex and his new partner, Helen Scott, but after arriving at the home it was revealed Miss Scott had called her ex-husband who came round for the steamy session and left 10 minutes before Clements arrived.

According to The Mercury newspaper, the coroner said: "His (Clement) expectation of sexual gratification by means of the proposed threesome was disappointed either shortly before or immediately after he entered the bedroom.

"It is likely that he quickly sensed that the opportunity for enthusiastic participation in the threesome was gone."

Clements left the home in a fury just after 7.10am after threatening and assaulting his ex-partner.

He then went home to get a firearm, at which point Miss Hales called her friend Benjamin Mark Aherne and pleaded for help.

Her friend arrived shortly after with his own girlfriend Christina Rowlands and when Clements returned just after 7.30am an argument broke out.

The coroner said: "He (Mr Aherne) faced an angry man brandishing a weapon and expressing an intention to do harm to Ms Hales

"He was successful in diverting Mr Clements from this course of action and removing him from the house.

"His intervention in all probability saved the life of Ms Hales and prevented any harm to her daughter."
