Panic as Mombasa sex workers devise new, nasty trick to rob men

Counties

Men who regularly enlist the services of twilight women in the coast city of Mombasa have every reason to panic because it will no longer be business as usual.

Desperate to make ends meet, the sex workers have come up with a new way of robbing randy men of their hard-earned cash. This is after it became nearly impossible to spike patrons’ drinks after many became too familiar with the old trick.

The women seduce men at entertainment joints and when everything seems to be fine, a group of well-built ruffians they work in cahoots with pounce and clobber the men senseless before robbing their money and valuables “for seducing their wives and shamelessly taking them to bars.”

Dennis Kangethe a local businessman fell for the underhanded tricks of this women recently. “I was watching an English Premier League match at a pub in Bamburi when I offered to buy drinks for two young women I was a sharing a table with. As time progressed, I became too friendly with one of them who was readily accepting my overtures,” he narrates.

What Kangethe was not realising was that a group of mean-looking muscled men were sitting at a corner hawk-eyed watching the proceedings. He was making plans with the woman on where to head to after the match when the men approached his table and caused a ruckus, claiming that he was with the wife of their friend who had not been at home for the last three days.

“The men descended on me with kicks, blows and poured all the drinks on the table, accusing me of wrecking their friend’s family, even after being warned several times. They even claimed I had been texting their friend’s wife at night and that I had sent a taxi to pick her on the material day she disappeared from home.

All this time, “the wife” sobbed loudly, begging her “husband” not to kill her as she would never repeat the mistake again,” Kangethe recalls.

In a few minutes time, Kangethe who is currently nursing a broken rib and a grievous injury to the groin, had been frisked everything. He lost Sh20,000 and a Samsung Galaxy phone in the ordeal.

Stingy men

What he went through is however not isolated. A pub owner in Sabasaba area of Mombasa town who did not want his name disclosed, says that such cases have increasingly become common. He says the women are using the trick because men became so clever and so watchful over their drinks that it became near-impossible to spike them.

He says the new method is foolproof to the unsuspecting eye since nobody in his right frame of mind would defend a man who is eloping with other people’s wives and taking them to bars.

“I have been forced to call on my bouncers to step in and save hapless men from serious beatings and from being robbed. My advice to men is to avoid stranger women in pubs at all costs if they value their lives,” he says.

Julius Katana another pub owner in Kisauni tells a story of a man who was robbed and stripped completely naked after being “cornered with somebody’s wife.” It was later discovered that the man was only being set up.

“I interfered and threatened to call the police after the men said they would take the man somewhere private and do to him exactly what he had been doing to a married woman. I realised what they meant and it would have been a scary ordeal for the man indeed had they gone ahead and carried out their threat. But they disappeared with the “wife” after I mentioned the police,” Katana explains.

A commercial sex worker who plies hear trade in Sabasaba only known as “Ndombolo” due to her bulky size told Crazy Monday that although they feel for the targeted men as it is a brutal way of getting their money, Mombasa men have become so stingy and difficult with their money.

“We would rather use this crude method than starve. Many men here only want to buy you drinks but give you little or no money yet we have children to feed and houses to pay rent. We share the proceeds with our accomplices,” she adds.

Police sources who spoke urged men who are attacked and robbed to report such cases for action. They should however blame themselves when they suffer the consequences of entertaining strange women in bars because they are barely able to keep their trousers zipped.
