A Kenya Defence Forces soldier returned home two weeks ago after escaping death from killer terrorists in lawless Somalia. He was murdered, outside his door, by a boda boda operator who was allegedly having an affair with his wife.

Stanley Kipkolomit was allegedly killed with a butcher’s knife by Solomon Kipkurui in Kabarnet town even as the country was still recovering from the grief of losing our soldiers to Al-Shabaab terrorists in a military camp in Somalia – where the deceased was deployed in December 2014.

The slain soldier’s sister, Ann Mosop, recalled that her brother had called to reassure everyone that he was on his way home and that he had luckily escaped death at El-Adde  KDF camp that fateful January 15.Stanley Kipkolomit died three days later after a night of having drinks with friends in his home area.

Kipkurui, the suspect, has since gone underground. The deceased’s family is accusing the police of dragging their feet instead of apprehending Kipkurui who is well-known.

The slain soldier’s wife, Nancy Kendagor, who was having an affair with Kipkurui, was grilled by officers from Kabarnet Police Station, but for a second time, investigators requested a Kabarnet magistrate’s court for more time to keep her in custody.

County Criminal Investigations Officer, John Momanyi, told The Nairobian that, “It’s true the main culprit is on the run, but the wife is still in our custody. The discouraging thing is that for the last two weeks,we have been with her, shehas turn hostile to investigators.

” Momanyi also confirmed that the suspect was on the run and his phone has been switched off. The elder brother of the deceased, William Cherambus, told The Nairobian that, “This person (Kipkurui) secretly took over a long time ago from my brother.

The killing was not a surprise to Kabarnet residents who had seen him spend days with the woman in broad daylight.”

Cherambus alleged that Kipkurui was spotted sharpening a butcher’s mknife two days after the soldier returned from Somalia and he used the knife to kill his brother after “he found the man in his house, having suspected that was having an affair with his wife.”

The soldier lived Kaprogonya estate in Karbanet town but was attacked before the wife could open the door for him when he arrived home past midnight, Victor Kiprotich, a resident, told The Nairobian.

The soldier’s daughter reported hearing her father knock the door and asking her mother to let him in.

“I heard him knock the door several times, but mum delayed a bit. As she went to open the door, I heard my father shouting from behind the house,” explained the Standard Eight girl. She added that, “I was about to wake up and open the door when my mum picked a torch and proceeded towards the entrance.

She ordered me back to bed.” She said she did not hear screams, but she could hear her mother talking to some people outside the house. Her father’s body was collected the following day outside the house next to his bedroom window.

A friend who was with the soldier the previous night said he received a call from another friend at 1am informing him that there was trouble at his house. “When I arrived, people were milling around his body, which lay in a pool of blood with deep cuts in the head,” he recalled.

The soldier’s wife was taken to hospital for examination to ascertain whether she had intercourse with the boda boda rider before the slain military officer arrived home
