Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has committed to facilitating private sector expansion across Africa should he secure the African Union Commission chairmanship.
During a visit to Business Bay Square (BBS) mall in Eastleigh on Wednesday, Odinga said private investment is crucial to Africa’s development.
He noted that the continent presents immense opportunities for entrepreneurs willing to invest in infrastructure, technology and industry.
“These kinds of developments can play a crucial role in creating jobs, especially for our youth and addressing unemployment challenges,” said Odinga.

He was accompanied by Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan, Eastleigh North ward MCA Ahmad Dabar and BBS chairperson Abdiweli Mohamed Hassan.
The mall, the largest shopping complex in East Africa, covers seven acres and hosts over 1,500 retail stores spanning fashion, electronics and household goods.
Odinga praised the project’s impact, likening it to major commercial centres in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
“If we can replicate such efforts here, why would we need to go to Dubai? Nairobi too can change,” he noted.
Odinga laid out his vision for Africa’s economic transformation, stressing that private investment is key to job creation, poverty alleviation, and sustainable growth.
He pointed to Africa’s abundant resources, youthful workforce and strategic position as prime advantages for investors.
The mall has drawn high-profile visitors, including President William Ruto and Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, making it a landmark development in the region.
Confident in his chances, Raila asserted that his campaign for the AUC chairmanship has gained traction across the continent.
“The campaigns have been successful. We have done our campaigns over the length and breadth of Africa and we are sure we will get the votes from most countries of the continent,” he added.
He reaffirmed that he has the necessary backing and support to clinch the position.
