Kanu party National Chairman has revealed he will be going back to the people to consult on the way forward.
Gideon spoke in Aiyebo, Baringo North, where he had attended the burial of the late Willy Kamuren, who was the first MP for Baringo East, now Tiaty. He became the MP at the age of 26 in 1963.
Gideon noted that there are processes yet to be finalized, and once done, he will go back to the people. He noted that with the people, everything becomes automatic, adding that he will not engage in politics of hatred.
He said he does not need a handshake with anyone except with the people of Baringo County, who will show him the way to follow.
“I do not need a handshake, I need the people of Baringo handshake. I will come back to you, and you will guide me,” Gideon said.
Gideon was responding to calls by a section of leaders, including Baringo North MP Joseph Makilap, who urged him to get into a handshake and work with those in leadership.
Eldama Ravine MP Musa Sirma, in his address, also asked Gideon to tell them when he will have a handshake with President William Ruto.
Gideo said they are expected to work for the people.
Gideon eulogized the late Kamuren as a generous and kind man who guided and supported him.
“He had a deep love for Christ, and I pray the family continue in his footsteps,” he said.
He noted that Kamuren had a close relationship with Moi.
Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi said he learned a lot from the late Kamuren. He said he succeeded in his quest for governorship after having consulted him and former President, the late Daniel Moi.
Makilap urged the people and leaders to support President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's handshake.
“We must allow the president to craft a united country,” said Makilap.
Being loyal to the government, he said, is not being stupid as through that the locals stand to benefit.
He conveyed the message of condolence of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula.
Wetangula said Kamuren was an excellent legislator whose prowess will remain unmatched.
