Catfight lands MP aspirant Ngunjiri's personal assistant in court

Julia Wanjiru is alleged to have grabbed a woman’ handbag to stop her from accompanying Wambugu to his home

A personal assistant to a Nyeri Jubilee parliamentary aspirant has been arraigned in court after being involved in a fight.

Julia Wanjiku, the personal assistant to political hopeful Ngunjiri Wambugu, was recently involved in a catfight with Stephanie Wanja after she tried stopping her from following Ngunjiri home.

On the material night, Ngunjiri- who said he was a teetotaller, was entertaining some of his supporters at a Nyeri entertainment spot after a long day of campaigns. But when it was time to leave, Wanjiku noticed that Wanja was also leaving at the same time as Ngunjiri, and she stepped in to shield mheshimiwa.

At midnight, Wanjiku is alleged to have grabbed Wanja’s handbag and dashed off with it to the washrooms to derail Wanja who later reported the matter to the police, claiming that she had been robbed of her handbag and items worth Sh115,000, including phones an iPad, car keys and Sh27,000, stolen.

Wanjiku was picked by cops from her home in Gatitu and charged on two counts; stealing and handling stolen goods. Wanjiku pleaded not guilty at the Nyeri Law Courts and was freed on a cash bail of Sh50,000.

Her arrest generated social media buzz in Nyeri town where it was discussed on WhatsApp groups. One of the groups which was named #releasejuliawanjiku while a second group was created with the hashtag #juliaisnotabovethelaw.

Contacted, Ngunjiri confirmed the incident and explained that they were all discussing matters pertaining to the campaign since “Wanja runs a Nyeri community based organisation which the campaign team and I support. We met to discuss business. Since I don’t take alcohol, after I was done with my meetings, I headed home.”

He said he was not involved in the argument that later ensued between the two women after he left the hotel. “Wanjiku works for me,” explained Ngunjiri, “but as for what happened between the two of them, I was not involved in anyway,” he said, adding that he was a father of three and has been happily married for 17 years.
