The late Senator Mutula Kilonzo complained of fatigue before death says personal secretary

The late Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo

Former Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo complained of fatigue before his death, the court was told.

His personal secretary, Stellah Mwendwa, yesterday told the court that the politician had on many occasions complained of being tired, coupled with loss of weight.

Ms Mwendwa, who was on the stand as the fourth witness in an inquest into the death of the politician and senior lawyer, said she thought the complaints were a result of the intensive campaigns he was involved in.

"He had lost a bit of weight, which I attributed to the campaign work, especially coming from the electioneering period," she testified.

She added: "There had been a lot of work and he had been complaining for long."

As his secretary for 10 years, she told Resident Magistrate Kipkurui Kibellion that she knew the kind of man he was. Asked by State Prosecutor Joseph Gikonyo how the politician related with his workers, she said Mutula was a strict boss.

Besides being strict, according to Mwendwa, Mutula related well with them at work. Mutula died at his Kwelu Ranch home on April 27, 2013, and the cause of his death has not been established.

Dr Ian Madison Calder, who has investigated sudden deaths in the UK for 29 years, said the widespread haemorrhaging in Mutula's brain, parietal spaces, and soft tissues astounded him. The hearing continues on June 27.
