Drama as Kericho man proposes to ‘hot’ woman rep aspirant at funeral

Counties
 Ms Vicky Batty Chepkorir

The silly season of dirty politics is upon us. Aspirants have gone bonkers and some are wielding all sorts of sticks and carrots to lure voters. Politicians have been shouting; no sex, no food and drinks, no holy communion and whatnot for those  not registered to vote.

Ms Vicky Batty Chepkorir, a Jubilee women representative aspirant in Kericho town, has, however, taken the game a notch higher by flaunting her single status, stirring the interest of bachelors, would-be in-laws and randy married men desperate for second wives.

The woman, in her 30's, has been going round boldly declaring that she is not just interested in winning the coveted seat, but also searching for the town's most eligible bachelor to marry her, once she becomes a mheshimiwa.

Calling upon all the desirable bachelors to try their luck and hit on her, the political aspirant has been giving out her number at her rallies, promising to start a WhatsApp group through which they will be chatting.

"Her rallies attract huge crowds of men who can't help ogling at her beauty, seeing as she has given them the green light to tune her. Before ending she always reads out her phone number, asking bachelors to get in touch with her and help her win the seat," said Charles Sigei, a local who has been at the aspirants rallies.

"I ask all the eligible bachelors who dream and desire to marry me to pray for me because the lucky guy would not be marrying any other woman but the county's most prominent woman," she recently said at a rally, adding: "I also ask prospective fathers and mothers–in-law to also pray for me because who doesn't want a beautiful daughter-in-law who is influential and well-off?"

The young woman became talk of the town a week ago after a certain Jimmy Bett, the son to a famous bishop in Kericho went on his knees, complete with a tiny box with an engagement ring in it and proposed to her while she was giving a speech at a funeral in Bureti constituency.

"I have heard your calls for a husband and I can't wait for any other place or time but here and now, I propose to you. I want you to be my wife. Will you marry me?" said the excited bachelor, as mourners looked in awe.

The aspirant's handlers had to whisk away the man for her to proceed with the speech. Crazy Monday is, however, yet to establish whether the duo later got in touch or the relationship died before it could even begin.

Opinion is split over her off-the-wall strategy to win votes, especially from fellow competitors who are vying for the same seat. The Knut Nation Executive Council official Mrs Emily Kirui who is also eying the Women Representative seat, for instance, has not been taking Ms Chepkorir's stunts lying down.

During the burial of the father of former Rift Valley Law Society chairman Bernard Ngetich, Mrs Kirui rubbished Chepkorir's single status saying the seat is a preserve for a mature woman who has been "tried and tested".

"The Kericho women representative seat requires prayers. The vacancy calls for a married woman who has been tried and tested. The seat is for a homemaker who knows how take care of a husband needs and raise children and I am one of the few who have the necessary credentials," said Mrs Kirui.
