A Form Four student who was expelled for being pregnant has been readmitted to school following an order by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
Last week, county TSC director Muturi Ireri revoked the suspension, saying it was against education policies to discontinue a student’s education on account of being pregnant.
“This should not be allowed because it is against the law,” Ireri said.
On Tuesday, the 17-year-old, accompanied by her mother, went back to school and was readmitted. The principal is said to have advised her parents to secure her a place in a day school due to her condition.
The girl’s mother, who spoke to journalists in Tala Town, said the principal told her the girl could not be allowed to remain in school because of her condition.
