The dust has settled. The beauties have been unveiled and come December 18, the outgoing queen Mireia Lalaguna of Spain will crown her successor from over 100 beauties representing different countries. Among them is Miss World Kenya Evelyn Njambi.

The Miss World Kenya crown holder left the country about two weeks ago for the 66th edition of the Miss World pageant. The rest of her team led by the Miss World Kenya pageant CEO Terry Mungai left on Sunday.

During an exclusive interview with Pulse, Evelyn, who got the crown in July after the then reigning Miss Kenya Roshanara Ebrahims was dethroned for what was termed as a breach of code of conduct said she was optimistic that she was perform well just like her predecessors have done in the past.

“In the short while that I have been Miss World Kenya, I have been prepared well with a lot of assistance coming from Terry Mungai and her great team that has been working day and night to ensure that I get all I need as pertains the Miss World competition,” Evelyn told Pulse.

“The event is very competitive and just like everyone else representing their country, I am set to carry the Kenyan flag high. The build-up towards the main event took off on 26th and so far so good,” noted the beauty on the event that is taking place at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in Maryland.

Speaking to Terry Mungai as she left the county on Sunday, she said that Evelyn has received good training from her team and all the back-up she needs to do well during the finals.

“In fact, the most amazing thing is that Kenya is this year getting a special opportunity at the event as we have been given a rare and wonderful opportunity by the Miss World Organization Chairman Julia Morley to show case Kenyan fashion during the competition,” Terry told Pulse.

“The Miss World Festival is organising the Beauty With a Purpose – a charity and fashion dinner on December 16, where there will be an exclusive fashion show for Kenyan designers. They will be showcasing 40 beautiful couture garments to be worn by top Models in the competition produced by our top designers,” she added.

Evelyn, 22, a former Pangani Girls High School student who was crowned Miss World Kenya Kiambu before taking the national crown has been working on a charity project called Reach for the Stars.

“This project was birthed in the wake of learning about needy students who face financial constraints even in acquiring the most basic of stationery to attend school. We started out with simply donating already used text books and novels to children’s homes.

I then thought about the other thousands of children in Kiambu’s primary schools that could benefit from this project. I teamed up with the chairlady of Red Cross Kiambu Chapter and Reach for the Stars project was born. We have visited several primary schools and early childhood development centres (ECDs) in Kiambu carrying charity events related to the same,” Evelyn remarked.

“I also run the Purple Pearl Movement. This is a women empowerment group that was formed in Maseno University, where I study, with the aim of creating a safe haven for the female students who face tough situations and problems such as abusive relationships and rape,” she concluded.
