• Located along Kimathi Street in Nairobi’s central business district, Ranalo Foods (K’Osewe) is popular for African dishes
• The restaurant, commonly referred to as K’Osewe (Luo for Osewe’s place), is majorly known for its tasty fish among other local delicacies
• It has gained popularity over its association with CORD leader Raila Odinga, who is a frequent customer at the outlet
• Raila’s favourite dish is Tilapia fish stewed on coconut with brown ugali and a helping of Osuga vegetable
• William Osewe, the Ranalo Foods proprietor, says the ODM party leader has been his customer since the food joint was started at the premises, over 10 years ago
• “He has been here several times. Apart from today (yesterday) another highly publicised lunch he had here was in 2008 with former Attorney General Charles Njonjo,” said Osewe, noting the former premier has been to the hotel other times without much media attention
• In the June 2008 meeting, Njonjo who was accompanied by Raila’s ally then, Mr Peter Kuguru, planned to install the ODM leader as a Kikuyu elder, drawing a lot of controversy
• “Many people nowadays are conscious of what they eat, K’Osewe offers the freshest food. Our fish comes from Lake Victoria. That is why I think Raila and other dignitaries love my hotel,” added Mr Osewe
• A full Tilapia at the restaurant goes for Sh700, while chicken costs Sh550. Ugali, rice or chapati is sold for Sh150, while Osuga goes for Sh150
• It is not only Kenyans who patronise the hotel, foreigners too do so. Members of the Morgan Heritage family, who sing reggae music, visited the restaurant
