Events giant Mo Sound says the Sh100 million loss it incurred at the University of Nairobi on Saturday has not crippled its operations.
“This will not affect our planned events or our strategies. We are stable,” Mo Sound CEO Kevin Mulei told Pulse.
On Saturday evening, close to 700 students descended on the equipment that had been set up for a concert planned for Sunday at the campus and destroyed it. This included screens, stage and sound equipment. The protesting students broke chairs and tables and stole drinks and catering equipment within 30 minutes.
The students had been protesting directives by the administration barring them from cooking in their halls of residence.
“As events organisers and events industry suppliers in the country, this is worrying and something needs to be done,” said Kevin Ombajo, the Events Managers Association of Kenya interim board chairman. During the event, Mo Sound Events and Outdoor Occasions lost equipment valued at over Sh100 million.
