How ‘gay’ teacher katiad journalist

Victor Kinuthia (L)  and the suspect Geoffrey Mburu Wanjiru covering his face after he was arrested by CID officers

A teacher in Gatanga sub-county is under investigation, following allegations that he tried to lure a radio journalist into a gay relationship through sexting.

Geoffrey Mburu Wanjiru, 21, was arrested on Monday after a local station reporter Victor Kinuthia reported him at Murang’a Police Station and the complaint entered in the Occurrence Book with reference OB No. 31/8/2/2016 following a series of sexually suggestive text messages he reportedly received from the suspect.

It is reported that the teacher got in touch with reporter late last year when his telephone number was made available to listeners.

One of the messages read: “ku kumiss nayo haki, please victor mbona huwezi tu itikia we be lovers and show it is also sweet kama ya dame why don’t you give it a try and see.”

Another message read, in part: “If we do it, wewe ata ndiyo utakuwa unanitia.”

Kinuthia said he reprimanded the teacher, who however claimed the text messages were just a joke.

His arrest came after the journalist learnt that the suspect was a trainee teacher and could harm young learners.

Criminal Investigation Department officers and the radio journalist set a trap for the suspect who unknowingly turned up at Githioro junction in Mukarara village in Gatanga, where the suspect had planned to meet the journalist.

Police officers waited for the teacher to board the reporter’s vehicle before they arrested him. There was drama before he was handcuffed and bundled into a police vehicle.

The suspect was arraigned before Murang’a Resident Magistrate Antony Mwicigi and charged with four counts of improper use of a phone. He was released on a Sh200,000 bond with a surety of similar amount until March 7, when the case will be heard.

Mburu, a youth leader at his church, said he was introduced to homosexuality last year by a man identified only as Kuria.
