I danced so hard I was paid Sh5,000 instead of just Sh1,000 - Catherine Kamau

After playing  Selina, the “mean daughter-in-law” role on the local Kenyan show mother-in-law, Catherine Kamau took on a new quest in her life to become the Harpic cleaner ambassador.

Today most ladies know her too well when it comes to “toilet cleaning prowess” and who would have known it all started when she landed an ‘extra’ role as a dancer?

“My role only involved dancing, but I danced like my life depended on it! I danced so hard I was paid Sh5,000 instead of just Sh1,000.” Cate says of her role on the local show.

“I was then given a role as a secretary, a few more roles, and I killed it.” She adds.

Born and raised in Nyahururu Cate believes that her passion and persistence played a major role in her acting career. It all started when she was a young girl growing up and taking part in church activities that her confidence blossomed.

Upon admission to Chogoria girls high school for her secondary school education, her bubbly personality landed her in the drama club where she participated in the many drama functions and poetry presentations.

She however earned an expulsion for mimicking the school headmistress, after which she transferred to Loreto Msongari where she was crowned Miss Msongari in her fourth year of school.

Soon after, she joined Kenya College of Communications and Technology and studied a diploma in communications, specializing in public relations. However, she did not have time to practice her art as she joined the Mother-in –law show and built a brand around it.

Asked how she landed her role as the Harpic brand ambassador and what impact it had brought upon her life, Cate said.

“Do your best. You never know who is watching! I never knew how big Harpic was and it’s the biggest thing in my career right now. I’ve been able to drive and change cars and send my son to a good school.”

Besides renewing her contract with Harpic to extend into 2017, Cate moved on from acting, to television hosting, film production and mentoring young actors at Phil-it productions alongside her longtime fiancé Phil.

Together, Phil and Cate have built each other up and despite initially keeping their relationship a secret, the two lovebirds affirm that they are the “Nameless and Wahu” of Kenya’s acting scene.

Today being her birthday, he fiancé Phil celebrated her saying,

Fall in love with a person who enjoys your madness not an idiot who wants you to be normal. I fall in love with her beautiful madness every day and she is a Goddess from up above.

We wish her a Happy Birthday.
