Father Michele Madonna has installed the device at his church in Italy - but local firms say it has stopped their card payment machines from working.
A fed-up priest has installed a phone signal jamming device in his church to stop mobiles going off in services.
Father Michele Madonna said: “Phones were always going off at funerals, which just wasn’t on.
“When it first started people would switch them off in embarrassment. Now they carry on talking.
"I bought the jammer from a local electrical store and asked the police if it was OK and they said it was - it's great as it has stopped the problem."
The device is available online and Father Madonna had an engineer fix it inside his church after getting approval from the local police.
But firms in Naples, south Italy, have asked him to stop using the £40 kit as it blocks their payment machines.
One shop owner said: “Since Father Madonna started using the jammer I've had real problems using my card swiper for payments.
"It just doesn't work and I'm losing money.
"Others are in the same position - I understand how he feels but what about us? This is our busiest time of the year."
