The star's wife of 50 years is fiercely standing by her husband after he was accused of assaulting at least 20 women.

Bill Cosby's wife has broken her silence and defended her husband after he was accused of sexually assaulting women.

The star's loyal other half Camille claims he is "the man you thought you knew" and is standing by the 77 year old, who has denied the allegations and is also taking legal action.

In a statement tonight, she said: "The man I met, and fell in love with, and whom I continue to love, is the man you all knew through his work.

"He is a kind man, a generous man, a funny man, and a wonderful husband, father and friend. He is the man you thought you knew."

"A different man has been portrayed in the media over the last two months. It is the portrait of a man I do not know.

"It is also the portrait painted by individuals and organizations whom many in the media have given a pass."

Camille, who has been married to the star since 1964, went on: "We all followed the story of the article in the 'Rolling Stone' concerning allegations of rape at the University of Virginia. The story was heart-breaking but ultimately appears to be proved to be untrue.

"Many in the media were quick to link that story to stories about my husband."

She then added: "None of us will ever want to be in the position of attacking the victim. But the question should be asked - who is the victim?"

Cosby has remained tight-lipped over the last few weeks as at least 20 women accuse him of sexual assault, speaking out only to deny the claims, but now he has taken legal action against the latest claimant.

Judith Huth filed a lawsuit on Tuesday claiming she was molested in 1974 inside the Playboy Mansion.

She claims she's suffered "severe and extreme emotional distress," and is seeking punitive and exemplary damages.

But Cosby has now hit out at Huth by filing legal documents, claiming she tried to extort him.

She's the latest woman to make the shock claims about star - with Cosby having denied all past allegations.

Breaking his silence on recent reports he told New York Post's Page Six:"Let me say this. I only expect the black media to uphold the standards of excellence in journalism and when you do that you have to go in with a neutral mind."
