The equality campaigns of the 80s have borne fruit. Women have shattered glass ceilings and found their rightful place in what used to be a man’s world.
Women are flying dreamliners and first ladies are running marathons.
It is worth celebrating but it also comes with a downside. There is also a noticeable proliferation of female criminals.
They come in all shapes and sizes and in all manner of disguise.
Unlike the stereotypical male thug, who anyone can pick out in an identification parade, the female criminal is for the most part invisible to the vast male populace.
The average man is not socialised to see criminality in women. Dangerous women were a TV fantasy, something that the Kenyan never imagined would become commonplace.
But, alas, our lives continue to mimic what we watch on TV. In the span of two months, three of my friends were robbed, by women.
It took a lot of digging to extract the information because I gathered that men generally do not want to admit they were robbed... by a female.
stunning woman
It is more dignified to claim that you were blistering drunk and she must have slipped something into your drink. Which can be passed off as carelessness on the part of the man and guile from the female criminal.
However, I am not referring to the commonplace bar shenanigans. We are talking about stone cold robbery.
My mate arrives home mid-afternoon to his gated apartment complex. On his way up the stairs to his apartment, he notices an unfamiliar female face in a parked vehicle but pays no mind.
Moments later, there is a knock on his door and he opens it to behold a stunning woman in fitting jeans wrapped around an Olympic swimmer’s body. The smile immediately disarms. She has a calmness about her and inquires about one of his neighbours.
Been the effortless gentleman, my mate’s first instinct was to invite her in. Big mistake, because in an instinct there was cold steel on his temple.
never learn
Still in denial, he tried to laugh his way out and received a thwack across his face.
The door is pushed open and two other women burst in, tie him up and proceed to clean out his apartment as the squad leader reassures him that she isn’t interested in killing him because she finds him “kind-of cute”.
Men just never learn to look beyond what their lust sees.
