Kalonzo urges Wetangula to obey court decision on House leadership

[File, Standard] Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has told National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula to adhere to the court ruling that restored Azimio la Umoja as the majority party. He said Azimio MPs should on Tuesday be allowed to occupy the majority side of the assembly as ordered by the court on Friday. The High Court ruled that Wetangula's declaration on October 6, 2022, that President William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza Alliance (UDA) was the majority party, was unconstitutional. "On Tuesday our Azimio MPs should occupy the majority side in the assembly because the High Court has proclaimed itself on the matter," said Kalonzo in Kilifi County. The former vice president who started his coastal tour Sunday opened Wiper Party offices at the Kwa Ndomo area in Magarini, Kilifi County. He chided the Kenya Kwanza administration, alleging that the ruling coalition had broken all the promises it made to Kenyans during the 2022 campaigns. Kalonzo said that Kenyans were tired of rhetoric and empty promises, saying the recent heckling of the president was a sign of a government that has lost the goodwill of its citizens. He insisted that President William Ruto had no plan for the country and was trying to force farmers and pastoralists to vaccinate their cattle with an unknown vaccination. "He tried to vaccinate cows in the Northeast, but instead of blaming himself, he started degrading scholars in the country," he said. Ruto, during his tour of Garissa, claimed that the vaccination would proceed and that he was more educated with a PhD compared to his fellow leaders; hence, no one should question his policies. Kalonzo was accompanied by former Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu, Wiper Kilifi County coordinator Idria Bajun, Wiper Secretary General Shakila Mohamed, Embakasi South MP Julius Mawathe, Machakos Women rep Joyce Kamene, and Kitui senator Enoch Wambua, where he urged Azimio la Umoja Coalition party MPs to occupy the majority side in the national assembly when sittings resume. Waititu, on his side, said that they will team up with like-minded leaders to ensure that Ruto does not win the 2027 general election and accused him of allowing the registration of foreigners to shore up votes in the country. "Everyone who wants Zakayo to go home is our friend, and even if he tries to register foreigners as voters, we will still beat him on the ballot," he said.
