Standard Chartered Bank emerged the overall winner in this year’s annual Champions of Governance Awards (COG) organised by the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya (ICPSK).

Stanchart was followed by ABC Bank and Simba Chai Sacco Ltd. CEO of the year award was taken by Centum Investment’s James Mworia while the chairman award went to Nzoia Water Services Limited’s Bernard Bifwoli. Company secretary of the year award was won by Centum’s Fredick Murimi Ngari.

The awards aim to recognise institutions and individuals who exhibit the highest standards of practice of good governance, explains ICPSK chairman Nicholas Letting. The institute has also started governance forums focused on county governments. The forums are aimed at building capacity within ICPSK’s members and the public to guide the transition to better managed devolved governance structures as envisaged by the Constitution of Kenya.

The awards, now in their fifth year segregates governance issues and focuses on them separately as they pose major challenges to economic development. This year, entries were received from 32 organisations, among which 27 were evaluated.
