Tourism Fund eyes Sh6 billion in annual revenue

Kenya: The Tourism Fund (TF), formerly the Catering and Tourism Development Levy Trustees (CTDLT), has rebranded to better position its role of propelling the tourism industry. TF says it is seeking to triple its revenue collection in the next five years from the current Sh2.3 billion to about Sh6 billion, according to CEO Allan Chenane.

"We are streamlining our collection to ensure we reach a target of Sh6 billion in the next five years," Chenane said during TF's launch and unveiling of strategic plan at a Nairobi hotel. CTDLT had been in existence since 1972 and operated under the umbrella of the Hotels and Restaurants Act, Cap 494, Laws of Kenya.

The Act was repealed when the Tourism Act came into effect. Cabinet Secretary Phyllis Kandie said since the enactment of the Tourism Act in 2011, TF is one of the parastatals under her ministry whose implementation has begun.
