ICT CS Dr. Fred Matiangi urges Counties to embrace ICT

Information, Technology and Communication Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Fred Matiangi has called on County Governments to embrace ICT to remain globally competitive. 

Matiangi who was speaking during the St. Pauls Nyabururu Teachers Training College’s 23rd graduation ceremony in Kisii said technology is continuously changing and without proper training on the emerging technology, adoption of ICT can remain a great challenge. 

“Indeed ICT skills are increasingly fundamental for workers beyond the ICT sector. All service cadres now require ICT skills to complete in the job market as all sectors of our economy requires the incorporation of ICT into their workflows,” said Matiangi. 

He said he recognizes the importance ICT services play in economic, social and political spheres and is committed in developing the sector to assist in addressing traditional development problems with innovative solutions and approaches that are both effective and replicable.  

“County Governments should use the 5 percent of their total budget in improving ICT in their Counties. The ICT Authority in my ministry can also partner in development of your ICT and infrastructure,” said Dr. Matiangi. 

The information Cabinet Secretary said the Government was looking forward to achieving the goals set out in the Kenya Vision 2030 but added that this will be attained on schedule unless there was rationalisation of the education and training in line with the Vision 2030 dream.
