By PETER KAMURI

Every worker wants to lead a successful career life. Among the many factors that can lead to this is having a healthy self-esteem.

However, lack of self-esteem can affect the productivity of employees. Those who have low self-value tend to achieve less at work as opposed to those with high self-esteem. People with low self-esteem feel insufficient to face challenges. They are predisposed to fail in their work. They suffer depression and their interpersonal relationships suffer too.

Fear and anxiety are indicators that one could be suffering from low self-esteem. This can be manifested when you find it difficult to react to different challenges at workplace, and you often feel confused.

Need to be better

Experts have observed that in some cases, even perfectionists may show one of the signs of low self-esteem. They want to work long hours, as they want to be better than everyone else. They do not know where to stop. Others tend to be over cautious of what co-workers say. They are wary of other co-workers. This is because they are unsure of how to talk and act in front of them. People who suffer from low self-esteem often lack self-confidence as well.

They often feel they do not have the confidence they need to do their work and do not believe in themselves. Many people suffering from low self-esteem will create unreasonable expectations of others. How can you overcome low self-esteem in the workplace? You should first consider your strong and positive features.Take time to ask yourself: Which tasks do I do well? What achievements have I been credited for?  Always give room for failure. Failing is part of life and no one is immune. It has been observed that when you fail, you increase your chances of succeeding. However, giving up after failure means you will not achieve your objectives.

Develop confidence in accomplishing any task that is ahead of you. You need to know low self-esteem can make you to feel incompetent in the task given. Therefore, develop the skills needed to complete a given task.

Understand your value. Understanding your worth is an important component of improving self-esteem. This means appreciating those things in your life that improve personal growth and interpersonal relationships.
