The South Sudan government has granted one of its deportees entry back to the country after he was previously turned away at Juba International Airport.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has released a statement clarifying the state of the deportee.

This is after the country gave a  detailed report about the individual Makula Kintu, saying he is of Congolese origin.

“In the spirit of the existing friendly relations between South Sudan and the United States, the Government of the Republic of South Sudan has decided to grant Mr. Makula Kintu permission to enter the country,” stated the Ministry.

Kintu was denied entry to South Sudan on April 5 and 6 following a conflicting state of his originality.

“Comprehensive verification processes confirmed that this individual is a national of the Democratic Republic of Congo, named Makula Kintu. Following our immigration protocols, he was not admitted and was subsequently returned to the sending country for further processing,” explained the Ministry.

Records from both governments indicated that he is a citizen of the Democratic Republic of Congo and not a South Sudanese, as earlier suggested by U.S.

Kintu is said to have entered the US in August 2003 and voluntarily departed for the DRC in 2009 but later returned to the US illegally.

The Ministry dismissed the reports of failing to allow the timely repatriation of its citizens.

Ahead of his arrival on Wednesday, the government has instructed relevant authorities at the airport to facilitate his smooth entry.

South Sudan has further expressed commitment to facilitating the return of verified South Sudanese nationals who are scheduled for deportation from  the United States.
