First-timers Chase Amira held Kenyatta University Titans to a barren draw in their Kenya Hockey Union women’s match played at City Park Stadium yesterday. The bankers were determined to emulate their male counterparts Chase Sailors who had earned a premier league promotion on their first attempt and played their hearts out against the Titans.
Amira coach Linet Onyango said her charges played well despite failing to score.
“It was our first league encounter and we managed a point and hope for better results in our subsequent matches.”
She added that they will correct their mistakes in their next meeting. Amira lined up their best 11 that included international Lorraine Nondi, Margret Macharia, goalkeeper Rachel Kerubo and captain Harriet Omindi.
They began the hunt for early goals with Nondi charging forward to score as well as ensuring that their backline was safe.
However, their efforts were thwarted as Titans played defensively and ensured that their shot stopper Seline Ouma faced no threats.
Amira came close to scoring their first in the 25th minute but Nondi’s effort went wide. Both teams had a share of lost chances in both halves.
