Now musicians want better pay

Musicians from western Kenya have accused local politicians of exploiting them during elections.

They lamented that the money the leaders pay them for performing in their campaigns is too little.

"How can a choir of 20 members entertain guests at a political rally for over eight hours then get Sh3,000 to be shared among members?" said a statement by the artistes under Ingo Talent Ensemble.

The group said local musicians are used by politicians to mobilise crowds, entertain them and even influence political decisions only for them to end up with nothing.

They also accused a section of leaders of violating the contracts they sign with them.

"They jump into their vehicles immediately the meetings end without paying. They sometimes promise to pay later but they never get back to us," added the statement.
