Governor Lusaka pays tribute to Deputy President's late brother

BUNGOMA, KENYA: Bungoma County Governor Ken Lusaka has paid tribute to the late brother of Deputy President William Ruto who passed on last week.
In an emotional send-off of Harrison Kiptoo Korir held at Kamagut in Uasin Gishu County, Governor Lusaka said that it was unfortunate that the country had lost such a sharp brain at a tender age.
"Cancer is emerging as one of the worst enemies to humanity. We must take early precautions to fight this perilous disease," he said.
He added: "The entire County of Bungoma is behind the Deputy President and his family during this difficult time."
Mr Korir was married to Agnes Jerono and was blessed with two boys. According to his obituary, the deceased was in good health until January 2016 when he started feeling unwell.
"He was diagnosed with  kidney problem in May. He was later taken to India for further treatment upon recommendations from his doctors. He was treated for three weeks, and this saw his condition improve. He was to be taken for a further review in August," part of the obituary read.
But this was not to be as his condition deteriorated three weeks upon his return from India. The late Korir was then admitted at Nairobi West Hospital, and later to The Nairobi Hospital where he succumbed to his illness on 15th July 2016 at 9pm.

Deputy President William Ruto said his brother was humble, down to earth and generous.

While addressing the mourners, President Uhuru Kenyatta said that cancer can be cured if diagnosed early. "It's spreading fast. My government has invested heavily in equipment that will help in diagnosis of this killer disease. They'll be put up in all counties," said the President.

Mr Kenyatta urged Kenyans to go for early screening to fight cancer.
