Jubilee finally names team to IEBC talks

Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi

Jubilee officially disclosed the list of its seven legislators who will engage CORD on talks on electoral reforms.

National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale and his Senate counterpart Kithure Kindiki gave the coalition's list and maintained that the leadership of the two coalitions would not have any input into the resolution made by the 14-man joint parliamentary team. Their only role will be to rally their members to support the recommendations when they are tabled in both Houses of Parliament.

The Jubilee team will be led by Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi, who will also be a co-chairman of the joint committee, with Cord expected to also name their co-chairman to drive the process.

Others named in the Jubilee team are Senators Kipchumba Murkomen (Elgeyo Marakwet), Beatrice Elachi (Nominated) and MPs Naomi Shaaban (Taveta), Mohammud Mohammed (Mandera East), Jimmy Angwenyi (Kitutu Chache North) and Moses Kuria (Gatundu South).

Those in the CORD team are MPs Hellen Sambili (Mogotio), Eseli Simiyu (Tongaren), Junet Mohamed (Suna East) and Mishi Mboko (Mombasa Woman Representative). Others are Senators Mutula Kilonzo Jnr (Makueni), James Orengo (Siaya) and Johnstone Muthama (Machakos).

CORD had maintained that coalition leaders, President Uhuru Kenyatta (Jubilee) and Raila Odinga (CORD) must sign the recommendations drawn by the committee, a position Jubilee opposed saying the two were "strangers" in the parliamentary process.
