Activists protest against Nyeri MCAs spending plan

Business came to a standstill in Nyeri Town Wednesday when a group of activists took to the streets to protest against MCAs' plan to build a Sh75 million health club.

The activists who matched through the street carrying live rats and placards accused the MCAs of wasting public resources.

Under the banner; 'Operation Ondoa Panya', the demonstrators accused the ward reps of using the resources for their own pleasure at the expense of service delivery.

"These MCAs are sneaky and that is why we have named the operation 'Ondoa Panya'. They are destructive, just like the rodents," Mr John Wamagata who led the protests told journalists.

The activists from the National Civil Society Congress moved through the streets chanting and waving placards bearing names of the MCAs.

'Operation Ondoa Panya' has held demonstrations against county assemblies in Makueni, Machakos, Nakuru and Kakamega.

The protesters interrupted traffic along the busy Nyeri-Nairobi highway as they made their way to the county assembly.

They also condemned the numerous foreign trips MCAs have been making to terming them a waste of public resources.
