Pay victims of collapsed Huruma building, MP demands

Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru

An MP has demanded adequate compensation for victims of the collapsed Huruma Estate building. Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru Sunday asked Nairobi County Government to use the emergency budget to compensate the more than 200 families affected by the incident.

Mr Waweru accused Governor Evans Kidero of neglecting the victims, claiming the county government had not offered help to the families to pick up their lives, more than two months after the April 29 tragedy.

The MP spoke Sunday when he visited the family of a baby girl who was rescued alive from the rubble four days after the incident. Waweru handed the baby's father, Saisi Wasike, a motorbike to assist him fend for the family.

Wasike and his eight-month-old baby moved to stay with his parents. At least 198 families received Sh6 million from the Government to cater for rent, funeral and other expenses.
