Limuru Road blocked over bomb scare at Canadian High Commission, Nairobi

Part of Limuru Road was Thursday morning blocked by police after a bomb scare at the Canadian High Commission in Nairobi.

Bomb experts were sent to the High Commission after an earlier evacuation to establish if there is a bomb there as claimed.

This happened as the area was put on a lock down after a suspicious parcel was abandoned there.

Traffic flow on the busy nearby road has been affected by the blockade and police are urging motorists to use alternative routes.

Gigiri OCPD Vitalis Otieno says police have blocked Limuru road to allow confirmation if the scare is real.

Bomb Disposal Unit boss Eliud Langat said they were trying to confirm the contents of the parcel.

The High Commission, which is near the UN headquarters in Gigiri sent a message to its staff advising them to stay away as the precincts were off-limits.

The alert told those not already at the High Commission to remain at home.

“The Canadian High Commission is currently off-limits. All Core Business Staff, Locally Engaged Staff and Spouses not currently at the Canadian High Commission are to remain at home. Update to follow,” said the alert.
