URP MPs criticise Kabogo over remarks on Ruto presidential bid

NANDI, KENYA: Two URP MPs from the North Rift have criticized Kiambu Governor William Kabogo over his remarks that Mount Kenya support  for Deputy President William Ruto  in 2022  will not be automatic.

URP rebel MPs MP Oscar Sudi(Kapseret) and his Nandi Hills counterpart Alfred Keter took issue with the remarks saying that they are meant to create division in  Jubilee  and  the country.

Speaking during the burial of the late Wilson Ngetich in Cheptiret,  Uasin Gishu County,  the two warned him against raising political temperatures on an agreement that has already been reached by the electorate.

"As Rift Valley, we are behind Ruto and Kabogo should desist from making such utterances, he is an individual and it is upon the electorate to make the decision," said Sudi.

The legislator noted that President Uhuru Kenyatta has already made it clear that he will cede his seat to Ruto in 2022 and it is an agreement that should be protected.

He accused Kabogo of undermining Jubilee saying the Governor has no moral authority to make such statements.

"We shall rally behind Uhuru in 2017 and we are optimistic that his backyard will also return the favor come 2022, it is therefore uncouth for leaders to make predictions not based on facts and wishes of the people,"

He added: "If he has his own political ambitions, he should wait for next general elections,"

The MP maintained that the country is peaceful and such utterances are likely to create divisions among communities.

Keter maintained that it is not the best time to discuss about 2022 general elections before 2017 polls.

He was categorical that leaders should respect those in power and work towards providing services to the public.
