Nairobi, Kenya: A man, who allegedly killed his girlfriend in Nyayo Embakasi, has been charged with murder at a Nairobi court.

Kunguru Martin Opiyo Junior appeared before Justice James Wakiaga and denied committing the offense on the night of December 15 and 16 at Nyayo Estate Court 782, House No.44.

He allegedly murdered Charity Mukami Wachira, a 24-year-old woman. The prosecution requested for more time to file an affidavit for bail objection.

The defense told the court that the accused needs to be examined by a specialized person. Wakiaga directed he be escorted on January 14 by the prison wardens for examination.

He was arrested in Kitale town as he rested in a house by detectives who had been trailing him. Kunguru is said to have been on the run since December 17, when his girlfriend Charity Mukami Wachira went missing.

She was later found dead in their house.

Police said he never responded to their calls and he kept switching his mobile phone after the body of the woman was discovered.

Mukami's decomposing body was found on December 22, 2015 in their house in Nyayo Embakasi estate. The body had stayed in the house for almost four days.

The matter will be mentioned on January 28 for further directions.
