Bomet County sets aside Sh 2billion to repair roads during El Nino season

The Bomet county government has set aside Sh2 billion to repair roads during the El Nino season, Roads and Infrastructure Principal Secretary Eng. John Mosonik has said.

Mosonik said the heavy rains is expect to affect roads and to ensure that transport is not interupted the government has set up the facility and a team that will respond instantly and repair section that are affected.

"The fears of roads being destroyed is real but the government is on high alert to ensure that any road that is affects roads is repair immediately and Kenyans continue to access their destinations without problems," the Principal Secretary said

He said to ensure a swift response in case a road is affected, the Ministry of Roads has put in place a response team that will be on a 24 hour watch.

"To ensure immediate action are taken when major roads network is interrupted by the rains we are a response team that are already on a 24 hour standby across the country and they are ready to respond and they can be accessed to a emergency call to the ministry through tall free number ," he added.

Mosonik was speaking at Kiromwok in Bomet central when he toured Roads in the region that are set for grading and murraming a head of the rains.

He at the same time announced that two major roads that have been earmarked for tamacking at Sh4.8 billion will begin in November.

The Principal Secretary said the 65 kilometer Darajasita-Chebole-Dikir and the 83 kilometer Silibwet-Olenguruone-Mauche roads being the main projects to be undertaken in the region under the program are set to cost Sh2billion and Sh2.8 billion respectively.

"Their evaluation has been done and tenders will be award to contractors in a week time in readiness to begin work in November," he added.

He said the two roads are expected to return huge benefit to locals in easing their access to markets besides opening up the places for investors.

"The beginning of the two roads will be a big relief to locals as it ensure that they access markets with a lot of ease and bring investors home unlike at the moment when it is not possible to to poor roads," Mosonik said.
