Construction of Sh5million market underway in Bondo

SIAYA: Construction of  a Sh5 million ultra-modern market in Usenge, Bondo sub-county of Siaya County is now  underway and at least 200 traders have been relocated to a roadside market for the next six months.

It is expected that traders will immensely benefit from the facility once the project is complete.

"When the market is completed, we will be accommodate more traders and have a conclusive place to do business," said Usenge Market secretary Samson Otieno.

Speaking to the press, West Yimbo Ward Rep Willis Ochieng said the construction of the market was a milestone.

"We are determined to see that we provide a conducive environment for our traders to do business," said Ochieng.

The MCA said  traders who have been operating from the market would be given priority during  the allocation of stalls.

"We are going to allocate the stalls in a fair manner. There should be no cause for alarm," he assured.

However, a standoff emerged between some traders and county government officials after the former resisted plans to relocate them.

"It was proper for the county government to find a place to relocate the traders instead of directing them to move to a road reserve," said a trader.

Bondo sub-county administrator Vitalis Ochieng said the matter has been resolved and that the market will be complete in a few months time.
