Nyamira Members of County Assembly vow to incite farmers

Nyamira Members of County Assembly have threatened to mobilise tea farmers to uproot the crop due to poor bonus payment and exploitation by multinational tea companies.

The MCAs blamed woes facing tea farming in the region on the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA), which they said was unfairly subjecting the farmers to low payments of the end-of-the-year dividends.

MCAs Beautah Omanga (Bogichora),William Atati (nominated) and Naomi Ondieki (nominated) said that it was high time the farmers did away with the sector by engaging in alternative farming, which could help them more than the cash crop.

Mr Atati accused the leadership and management of the KTDA factories in county for the poor bonus payments in all seasons.

He said farmers were languishing in poverty while directors were leading good lifestyles.
