Kenyans love it sexy, crazy and grim

News

Nana Gichuru, the late actress, blogger and Kenya Airways stewardess, was the leading trending personality search on Google in September, according to Google Search trends that indicate search patterns over a period of time.

Known to friends, family and colleagues as Kanana Gichuru, Nana passed on after a tragic head-on collision, involving her BMW convertible and an oncoming lorry, on Tuesday, September 22. A week prior to her untimely demise, she had posted a message on her Facebook and Instagram accounts on September 11, which was perceived by many as a premonition of her death.

The search results that were exclusively issued to Pulse this week have it that Kenyan social media users have a leaning towards the ‘sexy, the hot and the bad’.

James Mugo Ndichu, alias Mugo wa Wairimu, the man who stands accused of sedating and raping women in his clinic, was the second trending search personality in the month of September. Mugo wa Wairimu, who had been detained for 14 days as investigations into allegations made against him were being completed, sent Kenyans online as they sought to gather more information about him and his on-going court case.

French footballer and Manchester United forward Anthony Martial was the third trending personality search. The 19-year-old footballer sent football fans online after Manchester United signed the teenager for £36 million. Martial has, so far, scored four goals in his opening five games in all competitions for Manchester United.

The fourth trending search personality for the month of September was Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar. Kenyans went online to find out more about the late drug trafficker after the newly-released hit television show Narcos drew attention to his illegal ventures and extravagant lifestyle.

Fifth on the list of trending search personalities was Kenyan MP Moses Kuria following his recent remarks that he had led in the solicitation for false witnesses and fabrication of testimony against Deputy President William Ruto at the international Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.

Other trending personality searches were: Viola Davis after she became the first African-American woman to win an Emmy for Best Lead Actress in a drama for her role in hit television show How To Get Away With Murder; Mike Dean - an English professional football referee who sent Kenyans online after fans of football club Arsenal set up a petition to ensure that he never officiates another Arsenal game;

Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama after he made controversial remarks about Devolution Cabinet Secretary Ann Waiguru; English footballer Michael Hector after he was signed to English Football Club Chelsea for £ 4.5 million and Kenyan footballer Ayub Timbe, who currently plays as a forward for Lierse in the Belgian Pro League as Kenyans sought to learn more about him.
